About HFA

A short story about us

The Habesha Film Association was established in 2020 by four filmmakers who recognized the need for a stronger bridge between the Horn of Africa and the global film industry. What started as a vision to connect creators has grown into a worldwide network of storytellers committed to uplifting the diaspora and amplifying our narratives.

The Habesha Film Association is a pivotal organization dedicated to promoting and supporting the rich cinematic heritage of the Habesha people, primarily from Ethiopia and Eritrea. By fostering collaboration among filmmakers, writers, and artists within the community, the association aims to elevate diverse narratives that reflect the unique cultural tapestry of the region. Through initiatives such as film festivals, workshops, and networking events, the Habesha Film Association not only showcases local talent but also fosters connections with global filmmakers, ultimately striving to enhance the representation of Habesha stories on international platforms.
